Number games

(note – some of the younger kids may be able to do the older kid games)

Younger kids

1) Stack blocks: count blocks in Spanish as you stack – try to get to 20.

2) War: play with a regular deck of cards (remove face cards and jokers). Each player lays down a card, whoever can say their own number first gets both – try to get all cards. (This can also be done with homemade cards if you want to include numbers higher than 10)

3) Go Fish: Use the following phrases:
Player 1: Tienes un ____? (Do you have a ____?)
Player 2: Si, lo tengo. (Yes, I have it.) or Búscalo! (Go fish!)

4) BINGO: Make up bingo cards with numbers 1 – 30 (written numerically). Call off numbers in Spanish and students look for the matching number.
(can also be done with fewer numbers to make easier)

5) Just practice counting anything (m&m’s, raisins, etc.) in Spanish

Older kids

1) Go Fish (see above)

2) War: Remove face cards from a regular deck. Each player lays down a card. Whoever can say the sum of the 2 cards first gets them.
Variation 1: Leave in face cards – Jack = 11, Queen = 12, King = 13
Variation 2: Cut deck down to A-5. First player to multiply the 2 numbers laid gets them.

3) Bingo (see above)

4) Concentration: Write numbers out on 3x5 cards (half of the cards will be written out “uno, dos, tres, etc” and the other half will be “1, 2, 3, etc.” Match the numbers written out with their numerical form. If your kids already know 1-10 really well, just do 11-20 or 11-30.
